Dear Neighbors,
Earlier today, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved legislation that provides presumptive workers compensation insurance to front line workers who contract COVID-19.
Thanks to all the local folks that emailed me about this important issue. I was happy to vote in support of today’s bill.
Front-line workers include occupations such as medical professionals, law enforcement officers, volunteer first responders, and others that are working so hard to keep us safe and healthy. It was important that we recognized the critical role these workers play in combating the COVID-19 crisis and to ensure these folks receive workers' compensation if they contract COVID-19 at work.
No general fund money was used in today’s bill. Instead, funding will come from the current workers' compensation fund for now. We will continue to work on this as we reconvene in the near future. Like many issues, we will be carefully watching our limited state resources while leveraging federal dollars as the COVID-19 outbreak slows the state and national economies.
