ST. PAUL — The House is expected to move quickly today to approve $1 million in funding to help the Department of Agriculture cover avian influenza-related expenses until after the legislature's Easter/Passover break.
Representatives John Burkel, R-Badger, Dave Baker, R-Willmar, and Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, released the following statement on the bill's passage:
"We applaud the work done to get this funding approved quickly. As one of the top poultry producers in the country, we need to move fast to get this outbreak under control to avoid larger repercussions. We will keep working with Commissioner Peterson and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue our efforts to stop this wave of avian influenza and provide assistance to poultry farmers who have been affected."
