Dear friends,
Today Minnesota received a REAL ID time line from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. We have been told that the earliest REAL ID-compliant licenses would be required to board an airplane is January 22nd, 2018. States may receive extensions after this date, but all travelers must have a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable form of identification to fly within the U.S. starting October 1, 2020.
Bottom line, you don't need to worry about REAL ID having an impact on your travel plans for two years at least.
The legislature is continuing to work toward solutions, and will address REAL ID in the upcoming session, which begins on March 8th.
Thank you, and have a great weekend!
Peggy
