On March 10th, I attended the Governor’s State of the State Address which, because of restoration construction at the Capitol, was held at the University of Minnesota. Every year, legislators are allowed to invite one guest to attend. This year I invited high school senior Alex Syverson to join me. Alex attends the Albert Lea Area Schools, is an avid golfer on the school golf team, and is also actively involved in our local Youth in Government program.

Alex is such a great example of the top-notch young people we have in our schools. As a long-time teacher at Sibley Elementary School, I had the joy of watching Alex grow from a little kindergartener into the fine young man that he is now. It was a real pleasure to have him join me at this special event.
Alex has made a concerted effort to be engaged in government and the political process. I believe it is so critical that citizens of all ages are engaged with the democratic process on some level. Government works best when it is guided by and takes input from citizens. Young men and women like Alex are our future leaders. I am proud to say that I had the privilege to attend this event with one of these future leaders!
Please, as always, keep in touch and let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the current legislative session. Enjoy your weekend!
Sincerely,
Peggy
