ALBERT LEA, MN—The deadline for some teachers to apply for a newly created teacher loan forgiveness program is Thursday, June 30. The bipartisan provision originally chief authored by Rep. Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, aims at addressing Minnesota's teacher shortage. The program provides loan forgiveness to teachers who teach in designated "teacher shortage areas" which are determined on an annual basis by the commissioner of education, or in certain licensure areas for positions that schools are having a difficult time filling.
"Addressing Minnesota's teacher shortage is a critical issue for schools all across the state and one I've worked to tackle during my first term," Bennett said. "I hope our eligible area educators will apply for this program to receive relief on their students loans."
