Dear Friends,
Here’s a short update from this week!
Farm Bill
This week, the House unanimously passed a bill to allocate funds for the Rural Finance Authority (RFA) loan program. The legislation replenishes funds so the RFA can continue to work with lenders to provide farmers with financing for things like start-up for young farmers, acquiring cattle, and more. This bill is a victory for farmers in our state, and is also a win-win situation because it is a lender paid program where taxpayers are not on the hook for paying loans back. I’m proud to support this bill, and am encouraged to see a unanimous vote to help Minnesota’s agriculture workers.
Child Protection Task Force
On Monday, I was re-appointed to the Legislative Task Force on Child Protection. The task force was created to look for legislative solutions to improve Minnesota’s child protection system. As a former first-grade teacher, I’ve seen at-risk children who can fall through the cracks of the child welfare system. This task force is a chance to use those experiences to provide greater security and safety for Minnesota’s most vulnerable young people. I am happy to again serve on this task force.
School Visit
Today I was a guest judge of the Door Decorating contest at Lakeview Elementary School in Albert Lea. The event was for “I Love to Read Month.” The designs were so great, and I enjoyed seeing how enthusiastic the kids were about the contest. I always love being able to get into our schools. Good job, everyone!
