Dear Neighbors,
Clarks Grove
As you probably know, Clarks Grove was hit hard by the recent storms throughout our area. There’s been enormous damage, and many the pictures have been devastating. What’s encouraging is that I’ve heard of countless examples of our communities coming together and pitching in to help.
I have spoken to Mayor Hanson and he told me that, thanks to all the help, cleanup is well under way. I want to say a special thank you to Freeborn County Engineer Sue Miller and her crew for showing up early the next morning with equipment and workers to help clean up. Thank you, also, to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department, Xcel Energy, and Governor Dayton’s office for their quick response.
Last, but not least, thank you to all the local citizens and groups from the area who have shown up to lend a helping hand. We truly have amazing communities and amazing people in our area, and it’s trying times like this when we see people pull together to help when that becomes so evident.
If you still need assistance, please contact my office, or the Department of Commerce’s Consumer Services Center (CSC). They can be reached at (651) 539-1600 or (800) 657-3602 (Greater Minnesota) or by email at consumer.protection@state.mn.us.
This Week
I had hearings for my firefighter cancer database bill, and my bill to bring Erin’s Law to Minnesota schools. Thanks to the firefighters who helped me present HF1295; it’s now headed to the Health and Human Services Finance Committee!
We’re seeing lots of support for both of these important bills, and I’ll continue to advocate for their passage through the committee process and on the House floor.
State Essay Contest
The state is sponsoring an essay contest for students K-12. Any student can submit an essay about our Capitol with a chance to earn money toward college. Students can respond to the following prompts:
As a teacher for over 30 years, I see great value in students taking part in these academic contests. I know the type of great young writers we have in the area, and look forward to hearing about some local winners! If you’d like more information on the contest, please click here.
