Dear Neighbors,

It’s been great being back in our area following the legislative session. I’ve had a chance to chat with so many of you, and I’ve enjoyed hearing your opinions on all the issues facing our state. If we haven’t had a chance to meet yet this summer, you’re always welcome to set up a time where we can discuss any question or idea you have.

Father’s Day

First, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in our area! We’re so grateful for the loving, caring dads in our lives, and I hope you take time this weekend to celebrate a father who’s impacted your life. I want to say a special “happy Father’s Day” to my dad, too. He has always been there for me and has had such a positive impact on my life. I am truly blessed to have this amazing dad!

Big Health Care News

Just today, the Minnesota Department of Commerce released preliminary rates for the 2019 individual insurance market. For the second straight year, we’re seeing great news as rates will either stay the same or even lower. Prior to the reforms we enacted, Obamacare had caused years of double-digit rate increases. Now, all five carriers on the individual market are projecting a decrease in premiums for next year!

Today’s rate release shows our reforms are working, keeping health care rates the same or lowering them for Minnesotans. This is great news for residents around the state, and I’m proud to have advocated for these important provisions to reverse the tide of rising health insurance rates.

Advocating for Farmers

Recently, I wrote a letter with my House colleagues to ask the Department of Agriculture to extend the deadline for the application of dicamba herbicides in farm fields. We had lots of late snow this year, and then came lots of rain early this summer.

The unusual weather conditions this spring and summer have created tough circumstances for farmers in our area. It just makes sense to allow for an extension to provide some relief and allow our farmers to apply dicamba herbicides before the deadline hits. This is an important step to give our farmers the best chance at a good harvest in the coming months.

If you’re interested, you can read the full letter here.

Unfortunately, it looks like MDA isn’t issuing an extension. This is a disappointing decision for farmers around the state.

Humane Society

I was able to spend some time helping out with the Buckets on Broadway Humane Society of Freeborn County fundraiser today. Our Humane Society is a group of hardworking people who do so much for the animals in our area. I want to thank them personally for all of their hard work and dedication. Thank you, Humane Society of Freeborn County!
