SAINT PAUL, MN—Representative Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, issued the following statement regarding the passage of House File 2. Bennett is a co-author on the bill, and serves on both the Education Finance Committee and as Vice Chair of the Education Innovation Policy Committee.
"Minnesota students deserve a world-class education and deserve to keep the most effective teachers in the classroom to help put them on the path toward success. We are fortunate to have many high quality teachers in our schools. House File 2 helps school districts retain their most effective teachers in the unfortunate events of teacher layoffs. This bill will also help Minnesota address the teacher shortage that leaves too many students without opportunities afforded to schools that are fully staffed. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on ways to improve Minnesota schools."
