ST. PAUL, MN—Representative Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, issued the following statement regarding the
release of the Education Finance Committee omnibus bill, which was unveiled Tuesday, and will receive its first committee hearing Wednesday afternoon. The bill includes a provision
chief authored by Bennett to reduce state mandated education testing in K-12 schools.
"Minnesota students, parents, and teachers all know that our kids are asked to take too many state-mandated tests," Bennett said. "This bill will allow teachers to spend more time on their curriculum rather than preparing for state tests, and reduce stress and workload for students and teachers alike. I'm grateful to Chair Loon for including this proposal, and for her efforts to improve education for students and teachers across the state."
Bennett is a former educator, and
has authored multiple education-related bills during her first term in the legislature. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Education Innovation Policy Committee. You can find more information on the House Education Finance Committee omnibus bill by clicking
