Dear Neighbors,
The 2016 legislative session officially began on Tuesday as my colleagues and I returned to St. Paul for what will be the shortest session in recent history due to a massive capitol renovation project.
Last week, we received news that the state’s budget surplus sits at $900 million. Such a large surplus is evidence that the state is taking in more money than it needs from hardworking taxpayers. Because of this, one of my top priorities this year is much needed tax relief for Minnesotans.
In addition to tax relief, I would like to see a comprehensive transportation bill pass—one that does not include the governor's proposed 6.5% wholesale gas tax.
I would also expect broadband expansion to be discussed this year as we look for ways to increase accessibility to unserved and underserved parts of the state.
Please make sure to keep an eye on your email inbox as I will be sending weekly newsletters keeping you updated on all the happenings here in St. Paul throughout the session.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me to share your thoughts regarding the new legislative session. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-8237 or via email rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.
Thank you and have a great weekend,
Brian
