Legislative Update (3-24-16)

Thursday, March 24, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

It was another busy week at the Capitol with dozens of constituent meetings and committee hearings.

On Wednesday, I had a bill heard before the Agriculture Policy Committee that would establish a pilot program to help cover at least 70 percent of costs incurred to purchase, ship, and install an eligible rollover protective structure on a tractor built prior to 1987.

This program would be administered by the Department of Agriculture and requires the Agriculture Commissioner to solicit non-state funds—not tax dollars—to finance the program.

This bill would do a lot to improve safety for our farmers.

Additionally, I presented another bill before the Civil Law and Data Practices Committee on Thursday. House File 2742 would require certain medical facilities and public spaces to keep closed captioning on public televisions that are able to do so.

This bipartisan piece of legislation is a common sense proposal that would be of great benefit for deaf and hard of hearing Minnesotans.

As always, I will keep you up-to-date on the latest developments regarding these legislative proposals as they make their way through the legislature.

That’s all for this week’s update. Please make sure to contact me if you have any questions or comments regarding state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-8237 or via email rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.

Happy Easter!
