Dear Friends,
On Thursday, the House passed legislation that provides $10 million in funding to continue fixes to and bolster accountability for the troubled Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS). The bill passed the House on an overwhelming 124-6 vote.
As you recall, last summer’s rollout of the MNLARS system did not go as planned. Because of the botched rollout, once simple tasks like renewing your tabs or transferring a title turned into a weeks or months long process. Minnesotans were left hurting because of these delays and deputy registrars around the state have been feeling the pain of increased wait times and difficulties processing requests.
The reality is that Minnesota taxpayers have already paid nearly $100 million over ten years for a system that only half works. You deserve a DMV system that works. That’s why I was happy to support this important legislation.
The legislation incorporates a number of oversight measures and performance standards to ensure that progress is being made on the project. This added accountability is crucial in making sure your tax dollars are being used efficiently and effectively.
I am happy that some much needed oversight and transparency will be making its way to MNLARS soon.
That’s all for this week’s update. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to share any thoughts or concerns you may have about state government or the job I'm doing as your representative. It would be great to talk with you. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-8237 or via email at rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.
Have a great weekend,
Brian
