Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Daniels

Friday, January 25, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

On Tuesday, I joined thousands of Minnesotans on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol to peacefully protest our state and nation’s abortion laws. Every year, I amazed by the number of people that are willing to brave the cold to make sure that their voices are heard.

For those of you that know me, you know that I am a strong supporter of the pro-life movement and will continue to advocate for the rights of the unborn from conception to natural death.

Other than the March for Life, the rest of this week was filled with the usual committee hearings. Some committees have started to hear bills, but the majority of our time in committees continues to be overviews from state agencies on issues that will need to be addressed by the legislature this session.

One piece of legislation that has garnered a great deal of media attention this week was a bill that would ban the use of handheld devices, including cell phones while driving. This bill is an important step in trying to reduce distracted driving on Minnesota roads.

I am supportive of this measure and am looking forward to working with stakeholders and law enforcement to make sure we have the best legislation possible once it hits the House floor for a vote. Far too many Minnesotans have been seriously injured or killed as a result of distracted driving. It’s time we take a stand and fight back.

In the meantime, please be sure to contact me to share any questions or concerns you may have about anything related to state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-8237 or via email at rep.brian.daniels@house.mn. It would be great to speak with you!

Have a great weekend,

Brian
