Dear Lakeville Friends,
It was fun seeing many of you around Lakeville over the Easter/Passover break. I was able to see lots of our neighbors, and had a chance to listen to your questions and concerns. If we didn’t connect last week, feel free to contact my office in the near future.
The big news this week at the Capitol is the start of our conference committees. This is when appointees from the House and Senate (five from each body) come together to iron out differences in our large budget bills. As a member of the Transportation Finance Committee, I was fortunate to be appointed to the conference committee on transportation.
As part of this conference committee, I am working towards improving our roads and bridges in the metro and across the state. I’ve been a member of the Transportation Finance Committee since I started in the legislature, and am excited to be a voice for Lakeville residents and all Minnesotans who want to see an investment in roads and bridges.
It’s important we look for ways to fund road and bridges without raising taxes. We have a budget surplus, and don’t need to raise taxes just to pay for a core function of state government like transportation. I recently recorded a short video about this conference committee. Please click here if you have a second.
We at the legislature are working hard in all the budget areas to craft a fiscally responsible budget that respects tax payers and that the Governor signs into law.
Another highlight of the last few days was at the Lakeville Rotary meeting. I was able to meet some of “Strive” Students from Lakeville North and South high schools. These are some of our finest and hardworking students. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish in the future. We all have huge potential within, these young people prove that goals can be accomplished with commitment, focus and community support. It was inspiring to join them at the Rotary breakfast in their honor!
Lastly, here’s a fun photo from Tuesday. Our great photographers in House Photo took this picture of me during our recent floor session. The real highlight is seeing how amazing the House chambers look following the recent renovation.
Have a great weekend!
