Dear Lakeville friends,
We finished passing all of our budget bills, and adjourned the 2017 session. I was happy to see the way we worked across the aisle to create a balanced budget that works for Minnesotans.
We made some big strides in advancing priorities that are important to our area and our state. For example, we approved a $650 million tax relief proposal yesterday. This would help families, recent college grads, small business owners, and many more by lowering their tax burdens.
I was also excited to see us pass a multi-billion dollar transportation plan WITHOUT raising taxes. This is the largest investment in roads and bridges without raising the gas tax in the last decade! Overall, I’m proud of our budget proposal, and all we accomplished since the legislative session started in January. The contributions I was able to make, especially in transportation and in just my second term is personally satisfying and rewarding.
Here’s me with DFL transportation lead Frank Hornstein, who partnered with me on some transportation issues, especially the Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit project.
Education of course, is such an important issue to our area that I was pleased to see $1.3 billion in new education funding. This is great news for our students!
Now that we’ve finished our work, I can start to think about all the fun to be had in Lakeville this summer. Coming up is the Lakeville Block Bash. On June 3, we’ll have a party in downtown Lakeville to benefit our schools. There’ll be food, games, live music and more! For more information, please click here. I hope to see you there.
I’ll be in touch throughout the summer. If you need anything, feel free to call or email my office.
