Koznick Connection: Legislative Update (July 18, 2024)

Thursday, July 18, 2024

Hello Friends and Neighbors!

I had a great time seeing so many of you at Pan-O-Prog last week and throughout the summer!

Due to House rules, this will be my final newsletter until the election, so I'd like to describe the PRIMARY voting process, as well as reflect on some of the major accomplishments I personally have had for our district.

PRIMARY VOTING NOW through August 13th!

First, remember that November 5th isn't the only election day! In Minnesota's Second Congressional District there are partisan primary elections for United States House of Representative and US Senate.  Here is a sample ballot our district.  I encourage you to enter your own address into the Secretary of State's website here to generate your specific own sample ballot if not in the district.

What is your plan to vote in the August 13th PRIMARY?

Voting Resources

Here are several important links that you can use to check your registration, request an absentee ballot, and more!

A Champion for Lakeville, Elko NM, Credit River, New Market and Eureka Townships!

Our great community and the big futures and hopes our kids is why we work so hard to make Minnesota greater than ever before!

Accomplishments for the District

  • I passed into law as chief author a bill which provides funding for equine Mental Health Therapy for FIRST RESPONDERS.  Here is a short video link about it.
  • I coauthored and supported commonsense solutions to help our environment. Our "Keep It Clean" program prevents water pollution due to garbage and waste left on the ice during winter use activities like ice fishing.
  • I proudly advocated for grants to support domestic abuse victims! My bill provides funding to the Southern Valley Alliance so that they can further their mission of providing services and resources to victims, usually women.
  • I will continue working on long term improvements for County Road 2 in Elko New Market, as well as other district projects like Interstate 35 and Cty 50.
  • The I-35/Kenwood Trail (County 50) Interchange has been a top priority to renovate this busy exit and underpass to handle the increased amount of traffic more safely.
  • Metro Mobility Service to the district for our seniors and others unable to drive themselves.  Lakeville has been paying into the taxing district and now finally has this service option.
  • Orange Line bus rapid transit line funding and an additional lane to cross the MN River bridge for better and shorter commuting.
  • Established a Veteran designation on driver’s license to support those who have served us. In addition to same day license renewal system
  • Historic Education funding and standardizing Kindergarten funding for students with disability equal to non-disabled pupils.
  • Advocating for a project to safely recycle and dispose of Household Hazardous Waste. This multi-million facility is a joint project between Scott and Dakota Counties.
  • Authored and passed $7 million Rail Storage and turn-style facility near Air Lake
  • Authored and passed $7 million for First Responder Skills Training regional center
  • Passed Economic Development Grants for Manufacturing Growth Acceleration and Latino Chamber of commerce business programming.
  • Increased MN State Trooper compensation and pension reform.
  • Supported and passed increased Child Tax Credits, Nursing Home Funding, Mental Health GAP Competency attainment, reduced regulation in Hair Technician licensing, Historic Building tax credits, Police Duty Disability enhancement and more!

I can’t fully express the honor it is to advocate for and represent our community.  While it’s not always easy, I’m incredibly uplifted by your support and excited for the opportunity to make Minnesota greater than ever, and on a better path in the next session!

Sincerely,

Jon Koznick
