Last night, we passed the first bill of the legislative session: Federal Tax Conformity. This bill immediately provides $19.9 million of tax relief to hardworking Minnesotans, including teachers, homeowners, students, and more. I’m proud that we took the initiative to pass this bill early, so that Minnesotans can save time and money as they file their taxes.
I have co-authored three bills that will help to correct some of the most shocking problems with MNsure, protect your bottom line, and give more control back to local governments:
HF5 aims to ensure fair access and affordability in health care. I’m proud to be supporting this bill, which increases oversight of MNsure, eliminates bloated salaries and bonuses that are being provided despite subpar performance, and requires the Commerce Department to seek federal waivers to allow Minnesotans access to a tax credit, regardless of whether they purchase their insurance plan in the state or across the border.
HF63 returns the fourth tier tax rate to its pre-2013 rate. The change was harmful to businesses and investments in the state, and I am proud to support a bill that aims to undo some of that harm.
HF75 gives control back to local governments by mandating that all Met Council plans and proposals are advisory in nature. This allows cities like Lakeville to decide whether or not what is being proposed is in the best interest of our residents and businesses, and is necessary in ensuring that local governments are not forced to comply with Met Council plans that could be harmful to our economy.
