Dear Neighbors:
Happy New Year! With the new year, many of us are feeling the urge to turn our concern about state and national events into advocacy and action. Helping to facilitate that process is one of the best parts of my job. This month I’m organizing THREE opportunities - including the 2018 Advocacy Fair - to get involved in policy change.
Community Conversation: Turning Data into Action for Kids - Wednesday, January 17
We’re starting 2018 with the next in our series of Community Conversations. On January 17, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) will join us to discuss the results of KIDS COUNT - an annual, national project that measures child well-being - and how we can use that data to shape policy that values kids. We’ll be at Carondelet Village once again. See event details here.
Advocacy Fair – Sunday, January 21
On the afternoon of January 21 - the one year anniversary of the Minnesota Women’s March - I’m organizing the second annual Advocacy Fair at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, with my colleagues Rep. Rena Moran and Sen. Foung Hawj. Join hundreds from throughout the metro to connect with more than 25 advocacy groups across a wide range of issues. Please share the Facebook event page widely!
Prenatal to Three Policy Forum – Tuesday, January 23
The quarterly Prenatal to Three Policy Forums, which I founded in 2016, bring together 200+ advocates, policymakers, and community members from throughout the state to build a shared agenda for early childhood. The seventh Policy Forum is coming up on January 23, from 9:00am to noon at the University of St. Thomas, with webcast available as well. Full details at p3minnesota.org.
