Dear neighbors,
My legislative update earlier this week contained a typo; this Sunday’s Chat with Dave runs from 1:30pm to 3:00pm (rather than starting at 1:00pm) at Highland Park Community Center. The Senate District 64 town hall is coming up on Saturday, March 23.
Minnesota Values Podcast
Earlier this week, I discussed my interview on the Minnesota Values Podcast, which is produced by the House DFL. On the most recent episode, the guest was Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn, the vice-chair of the Early Childhood Division. The topic was our division’s signature legislation, the Great Start for All Minnesota Children Act (HF 1). Tune in here to learn more about our plan to give the youngest Minnesotans the great start they deserve.
Affordable Insulin
Nicole Smith-Holt and James Holt, Jr. have courageously advocated for insulin affordability since 2017, when their son Alec died at the age of 26 because he couldn’t afford his monthly supply of insulin. Unfortunately, many Minnesotans struggle to pay for the medication they need to survive each month, while big pharmaceutical companies collect record profits. Earlier this week, the House Health & Human Services Policy Committee (on which I serve) heard several bills to address the rising cost of insulin, including the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act (HF 485). Each moved forward with my support.
Rally for Gun Safety
Wednesday was Moms Demand Action’s Day at the Capitol. Parents, students, and survivors of gun violence shared their stories and urged legislators to do more to keep guns out of the hands of people who have shown themselves to be dangerous. I was glad to speak at the rally and inspired for further action.
Events are moving fast at the Capitol; please keep in touch.
