ST. PAUL – Governor Mark Dayton delivered his State of the State address to a joint convention of the Minnesota Legislature this evening. Governor Dayton emphasized the strong performance of Minnesota’s economy and reiterated his desire to see the $1.9 billion budget surplus used for strong investments in Minnesota’s schools, from early childhood education programs to continuing the tuition freeze at state colleges and universities. Rep. Cheryl Youakim was honored to join the bipartisan delegation of legislators that escorted Governor Dayton into the House Chamber.
“It was an honor to join my colleagues escorting Governor Dayton to the front of the chamber,” said Rep. Cheryl Youakim (DFL – Hopkins). “I was also pleased to hear the Governor reinforce his desire to see Minnesota invest in our youngest learners by broadening access to early childhood education programs. We need to have all options on the table for getting help to our most vulnerable learners. All approaches that will help reduce the achievement gap need our support, and I’m encouraged by the Governor’s passion for investments in early learning and our future.”
