Hello Everyone,
Session is just around the corner with the first day on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. At noon, all House members will be sworn in. There will be 37 new members sworn in that day as well. I had the chance to meet many of them when I helped to lead new member orientation in early December. It is an incredible bunch of folks and I am excited for all of us to get to work! You can see information about the new members here.
With the new session, I will have a new office as well as new staff whom I will be announcing soon. I will still be in the State Office Building but will now be located in room 591. My e-mail and phone number will remain the same.
Committee Assignments
Committee assignments were made public last week and I am excited to announce that I will be the Chair of the House Education Policy Committee. I started my public service, over thirteen years ago, advocating for early childhood and K-12 funding so this issue area is like coming home. I will also serve on the Tax Committee, the Education Finance Committee, the Transportation Finance & Policy Division. Four committees will be a heavier load than my first two terms but I am up to the task. You can see the full list of committee assignments here.

New Laws
There are a few new laws that were passed last session that will take effect on January 1, 2019. You can see those laws at the link here. You can also see a summary of all the laws that passed in 2018 here.
I am looking forward to the new session and I hope to see you at one of the Community Conversations or the Town Hall. And, as always, please feel free to contact me with your thoughts and concerns.
Have a fantastic New Year!
Cheryl Youakim
