St. Paul, Minn.—Minnesotans today received news that the Southwest LRT project has been granted its Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The FFGA provides nearly a billion dollars in federal funds as a match to more than a billion dollars of local funding and clears the way for the completion of Minnesota’s largest ever public works project.
Representative Cheryl Youakim (DFL-Hopkins), a long-time supporter of the SWLRT released the following statement:
“A big thank you to all the city councils along the line who supported this project, the Hennepin County Commissioners, our local state legislators, our federal delegation, and the business community," Rep. Youakim expressed. "I’m especially grateful to the residents of Hopkins and St. Louis Park who helped shape the vision, spent time on boards & commissions, and never lost hope. We will all have to celebrate the first ride on the SWLRT when it is completed.”
