St. Paul, MN- Rep. Cheryl Youakim (DFL-Hopkins) has earned the 2021 Legislator of the Year award from the Rethos Policy Institute. The award recognizes her work on historic preservation tax credits.
“Historic tax credits are a financial tool to help developers rehabilitate old buildings for new uses versus tearing them down,” said Rep. Youakim. “These credits help preserve important, historic structures, and create jobs at the same time, representing a win-win for our communities across the state.”
During the 10 years that the Minnesota version of the Historic Tax Credit has been in place, along with the federal counterpart, there have been 130 projects undertaken in Minnesota, with over 18,650 jobs created, $1.95 billion in project investments, and $3.5 billion added to the Minnesota economy.
