Dear Neighbors,
We learned this week that House and Senate Republican leadership has now filed a lawsuit against Governor Dayton regarding his line item veto of funding for the legislature. It is unknown at this point how the legal case will develop. I will update you as I learn more.
Going forward, I am hoping to use these updates as a way to share upcoming events and useful information with all of you. Please let me know about events you think I should include, and forward these updates on to others who may be interested. Our community has so much to offer!
The following are a few things I wanted to share this week:
Natural Disaster Assistance
Our area recently experienced wind and hail storms, and we will no doubt experience more as the summer goes on. In light of this, I’m including some relevant information from the Department of Commerce.
Lots of useful information can be found at the online Disaster Information Center: http://mn.gov/commerce/consumers/your-home/protect/dic/
The Department of Commerce’s Consumer Services Center (CSC) is available to help with questions, concerns, or complaints following a damaging storm, flood, or tornado. The CSC help consumers understand their rights, work with their insurer to settle a claim, and help Minnesotans make informed insurance decisions after a flood or storm damages their property.
The CSC can be reached at (651) 539-1600 or consumer.protection@state.mn.us
YMCA Free Summer Access for Teens
The YMCA is offering free summer memberships for area high school students. We have a great YMCA location in Shoreview and I encourage those with teens to check it out, as the Y offers many great programs. Here is a story from the Star Tribune with more details: http://www.startribune.com/greater-twin-cities-ymca-offers-free-summer-access-to-teens/425191233/

Fishing in the Neighborhood
The Department of Natural Resources also has lots of information about taking kids fishing in suburban areas like ours: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fishing/fin/index.html
I look forward to hearing from you throughout the summer. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns or thoughts.
