Here’s the latest news from the Capitol:
Economic Relief for Minnesotans
House DFLers are working with Governor Walz to deliver immediate economic relief for the Minnesotans hit hardest by COVID-19. We recently introduced an economic relief package to keep small businesses afloat, support workers struggling to get by, and help families keep food on their tables. As we await more aid from the federal government, we’ll keep working to curb the spread of the virus and help Minnesotans make ends meet.
Housing and Energy Assistance Available
In the meantime, resources are available to help those impacted by COVID-19. If you are behind on rent, mortgage, or utility payments, I encourage you to apply for the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program by Monday, December 7. You can call 211 or visit 211unitedway.org to apply.
Additionally, more than $106 million in federal funding is available to help eligible Minnesotans pay their heating bills this winter. Minnesotans should submit applications for this assistance to their local service provider. To find yours, click here or call 800-657-3710.
Small Business Grants Available
The Ramsey County Small Business Relief Fund is providing support for local businesses that are experiencing financial strain due to COVID-19. Applications for the final round of 2020 grants are due today. Priority will be given to businesses that have applied for assistance and haven’t received an award in previous rounds. Additional assistance is available for businesses that have already received funding. You can learn more and apply here.
New Leadership Role
I’m excited to announce that I’ve been appointed to serve as the Chair of the House Judiciary Finance & Civil Law Committee for the 2021-2022 biennium. As chair, my top priority will be centering justice and equity in the legislation we craft and the way the committee operates. I’m committed to ensuring that our shared values as Minnesotans are reflected in our legal systems and honored to serve in this new role.
