St. Paul, MN.?–?Today, the Minnesota House voted 130-3 to advance a bill that would expand mandated reporting to protect our youth. The legislation, authored by House Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Committee Chair Jamie Becker- Finn (DFL- Roseville), expands mandated reporting requirements to include more employees who have face-to-face contact with children, including club sport coaches, scout leaders, church employees, and other youth supervisors and coaches.
“After the USA Gymnastics abuse scandal, it became clear that we had to examine our own laws to guarantee that our children are protected in every setting,” said Rep. Becker-Finn. “This bill will close a dangerous loophole that leaves our children vulnerable outside of school and daycare settings, requiring that those in supervisory roles are obligated to report maltreatment.”
Video recording of today’s floor session will be made available on the House Public Information YouTube channel.
