Water Conservation, Tax Changes, and More

Thursday, July 22, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are all finding various ways to beat the heat as we deal with some difficult weather and air pollution. As we continue to face drought conditions, remember to limit outdoor fires, and reduce water use at home. The haze that has covered the state recently is due to forest fires just across the border in Canada.

Water Restrictions in Place Across our District

  • Little Canada: A City-wide daytime watering ban is in effect every day May 1 through September 30, from 10:00 AM to 6 PM. Please refrain from watering your lawn during those times.
  • Roseville tips to conserve water, the city is encouraging odd-even lawn watering, and asking residents to limit outdoor watering to before noon or after 6 p.m.
  • Shoreview: Watering restrictions are in effect from May 15 - September 15, annually. Water every other day before 11 am or after 5 pm. Watering restrictions apply to residents using private wells or surface water for irrigation.
  • Vadnais Heights: Homes and businesses with addresses ending with an even number may water their lawns on even-numbered days; addresses ending in an odd number may sprinkle on odd-numbered days. No watering may occur between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Improvements at Roseville Area High School

Thanks to the building bond that passed with community support in 2017, Roseville Area High School will look very different this fall. I met with school officials yesterday to tour the updated areas and I am so excited for our students! Improved areas for hands-on skill building and education will truly prepare our students for life after high school. I can’t wait for construction to be completed so the whole community can see it all.

MN Tax Changes go into Effect

Minnesota tax code changes were signed into law on July 1, 2021. The changes relate to unemployment compensation, Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness, and other retroactive conformity provisions affecting tax years 2017 through 2020. The Minnesota Department of Revenue updated Minnesota tax forms for tax year 2020 to reflect these changes. If you filed a 2020 income tax return that included unemployment compensation or PPP loan forgiveness, the Department of Revenue will either adjust the return or ask you to amend.

  • If Revenue can adjust the return, they will send you a letter describing what they changed and any refund you may receive as a result.
  • If you will need to amend solely due to Minnesota tax law changes, wait until you hear from Revenue before filing. They will let you know whether they will adjust your return or if you will need to amend.
  • If you have not yet filed a 2020 return, or filed for an extension, you may file using the updated forms to claim the recently passed unemployment and PPP loan forgiveness income exclusions and deductions.
