ST. PAUL – Pennington Republican Matt Bliss took his first oath of office in the Minnesota House of Representatives Tuesday during the Class of 2017’s swearing-in process at the Capitol.
Bliss was elected in November to represent House District 5A, which encompasses portions of Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard and Itasca counties. He is serving four committees in the House, including Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance; Government Operations and Elections; Mining, Forestry and Tourism and Veterans Affairs. Bliss, a Navy veteran, is vice chairman of the Veterans Affairs panel.
“It is an incredible honor to serve the citizens of District 5A and it is good to get the session underway so we can start working on the issues to help Minnesotans,” Bliss said. “It is humbling that the people of 5A sent me to represent them in St. Paul and I am ready to hit the ground running and deliver.”
Constituent outreach will be a primary focus of his public service, Bliss said. He welcomes District 5A residents to call his legislative office at (651) 296-5516 or email rep.matt.bliss@house.mn to provide input or set up an appointment.
Bliss is a married father of four and grandfather of four. He and his wife, Emily, an elementary school teacher, own Bliss Point Resort.
