Update from the House

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

Before we get into today’s news, I want to pass along word that the end of this week brings us to 60 days removed from when the Legislature adjourned this year and rules kick in at that point stipulating emails such as this will have to be put on hold until after the election season.

This black-out period will not impact my continued efforts to serve the people of District 5A, including making appearances at local meetings and events. For example, I plan to spend a good amount of time talking with constituents at the upcoming Beltrami County Fair. I hope to see you there.

There also is a Disabled American Veterans town hall meeting and benefits counseling session this Saturday. They are expecting a rather large turnout for that event after having reportedly reached out to invite every veteran within a 40-mile radius.

A variety of elected officials also will speak and answer questions. While I will be at my daughter’s wedding that day and unable to in person, I have written a letter that will be shared at that event to highlight some of our top legislative accomplishments to support veterans in this biennium. There are a large number of high points, including everything from the $32 million we provided for construction of three new veterans homes in our state (including Bemidji) to eliminating the annual application for receiving the disabled veterans homestead exclusion.

Please stay in touch and, as always, your personal feedback is welcome. Hope to see you around at this summer’s remaining community events.

Sincerely,

Matt
