PENNINGTON – Rep. Matt Bliss, R-Pennington, announces the Northwoods Caregivers of Bemijdi is receiving state grant funding to assist in efforts to support people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and those who care for them.
The Minnesota Board on Aging awarded $110,535 to Northwoods Caregivers. The funds are from a $750,000 appropriation the Minnesota Legislature recently provided to support grants for organizations throughout the state that address Alzheimer’s. The grant goals include increasing access to memory screenings and training, heightening cultural responsiveness and working with health care providers to improve services.
“Alzheimer’s already impacts more than 90,000 Minnesotans and that number is only growing, with our state’s 65-plus residents projected to surpass our K-12 population around the year 2020,” Bliss said. “Those challenges impact virtually everyone in our state, not just senior citizens. It also is important that we take into account differing cultural norms and values, and the funding the Legislature provided for these grants is geared toward those efforts.”
