Neighbor, Just a quick note to let people know how they can provide public testimony on the governor’s effort to bring California’s car standards to Minnesota since he is bypassing the legislative process. While I have addressed this subject in a recent e-newsletter, in a column submitted to area newspapers and on local radio, many people are completely unaware the governor wants to force more electric cars into our market. This would significantly increase vehicle costs, limit choices to vehicles such as trucks and also deal a blow to local auto dealers. The governor’s push seems to be flying under the public’s radar because he is using administrative rulemaking, circumventing the legislative process and the public transparency/scrutiny that comes with a full set of hearings in each body. That said, I encourage people to do what they can to become engaged on this issue. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has scheduled virtual public information sessions to address it, including 3 p.m. Feb. 22-23. Prior to adopting the new rules, there is a public comment period running through March 15. People can learn more or submit their comments here. Sincerely, Matt |
