Dear Neighbor,
I wish you and yours a blessed Easter/Passover season. Please be careful on the roads if your plans involve traveling to be with friends and family.
When the Legislature returns to the Capitol next week after the holiday, only six full weeks will remain in the 2021 session. That means a whole lot of business will have to be completed on a relatively tight timeline to get our next state budget enacted before our May 17 date for adjournment.
It took some extra work and persistence, but legislation I have authored to fund camps in northern Minnesota for veterans with PTSD recently was accepted by the House majority and included in a package of measures that was unanimously approved by the Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee.
We’ll see what happens the rest of the way with my proposal. I am optimistic of its chances and will continue working with fellow legislators and doing whatever it takes to make sure stays in the mix as this omnibus bill moves through the process. The outlook for a bill I have authored to fund additional training for our science teachers also looks promising.
Watch for more news on these subjects and more as we make our way into the session’s home stretch. For now, I hope you have an enjoyable holiday weekend and, as always, your input is welcome.
Sincerely,
Matt
