Dear Neighbors,
We’re nearing the end of our second week back at the Capitol. The past several days have been filled with constituent, advocate, and committee meetings.
For all of you who have already shared your thoughts and concerns with me, thank you! It’s a vital part in helping me represent you and your neighbors in St. Paul.
Budget Surplus
On Wednesday, Minnesota Management and Budget released its February economic forecast, showing a $329 million surplus for the 2018-2019 biennium. This marks a turnaround from late last year – which projected a deficit – fueled by Congress reauthorizing funding for children’s health care.
The surplus is good news but I’ll be focusing on smart, responsible investments instead of huge expenditures like the corporate tax giveaways passed last spring.
Looking ahead, we must protect the investments that make Minnesota work for everyone.
