Dear Neighbors,
We had another full week at the Capitol and I don’t expect the pace to slow down at all from now until adjournment. Here are the highlights of what happened this week:
Veterans Day on the Hill
Monday was Veterans Day at the Capitol, giving veterans and advocates the opportunity to speak to legislators about issues important to them. Some of the main topics included stopping predatory lending against veterans’ benefits and helping keep surviving spouses in their homes. Thank you to all the veterans and advocates who made it to the Capitol.
State of the State
On Wednesday, Gov. Dayton delivered his eighth and final State of the State address. I’ve appreciated his integrity and leadership in stabilizing our state’s economy and making significant investments in our schools and in our communities.
Rep. Koegel and Sen. Newton attending the State of the State.
Protecting our Seniors
Last year, the Star Tribune published a series detailing serious abuses and mistreatment going uninvestigated in Minnesota’s senior care facilities, including a backlog of uninvestigated claims.
While those claims have been reduced and changes are being made, I’m committed to doing everything we can to keep this from ever happening again. Our seniors deserve to live with dignity and security and I’m pleased to see a bipartisan coalition address this issue.
