Legislative Update - April 26, 2018

Thursday, April 26, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

We have fewer than four weeks left in the legislative session and will be hearing omnibus finance bills and a tax conformity bill in the coming days. Here’s the latest from the Capitol:

MnDOT Commitment

Last week, Rep. Connie Bernardy and I authored an amendment directing the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a safety study on Hwy. 47. While the amendment was blocked, MnDOT did agree to look into possible safety improvements along the corridor.

Just this week, there was another deadly incident, making it nine fatalities in 18 months. I’ve spent much of this session pushing for better safety on this stretch of road and encouraged to see MnDOT taking the matter seriously. We cannot keep waiting.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Saturday, April 28 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Minnesotans can drop off leftover opioids in approved drop boxes for proper disposal, no questions asked. This is the recommended method of disposal for opioids as it helps prevent crime, drug abuse, and accidental poisoning.

AFL-CIO Retirees

On Saturday, I joined Minnesota AFL-CIO retirees for a celebration of their service and retirement. It was a pleasure to be there as a state legislator to thank them for all they do for our state.

With so many omnibus finance bills coming to the floor in the coming days, please continue reaching out with your ideas and input. It’s so valuable and helpful to hear from you on the issues affecting our communities.

Sincerely,

Erin Koegel
