Saint Paul, MN. — Representative Erin Koegel (DFL-Spring Lake Park) has been accepted into the National Conference of State Legislature’s (NCSL) Opioid Policy Fellowship program. This program focuses on health policies and programs being addressed by state legislatures across the country. The program works to support and uplift legislators who are experienced or emerging leaders on issues surrounding the opioid crisis.
“I am incredibly honored to be accepted to this relevant and important program. Opioids have greatly affected the lives of Minnesotans throughout the state, including my own, and it is important that we implement the most cutting-edge policies to curb this crisis,” said Rep. Koegel. “I hope to share my knowledge with the other fellows and bring back strategies and knowledge that they have to Minnesota. The opioid crisis is as serious as ever, and we will need to do everything we can to end it.”
The program comprises 20-25 legislators from across the country and leading research and policy experts in the field. The program is designed to encourage fellows to take action and lead policy changes in their own states. NCSL states that fellows will:
- Build knowledge about new research and policy.
- Be part of a peer learning environment fostering the exchange of ideas and solutions related to opioid misuse and overdose and many related issues.
- Meet, connect and learn from other legislative leaders.
- Receive the exclusive opportunity to connect with leading researchers and policy experts.
- Identify action steps as part of a practical plan for immediate use in your state.
Rep. Koegel’s brother has battled opioid addiction, fortunately he is currently winning that battle and now works to help others who struggle with the same addiction.
