SAINT PAUL, MN – Yesterday, a man was fatally shot at the Hmong Freedom Festival.
Rep. Fue Lee (DFL-Minneapolis), who spoke at the event Sunday morning, released the following statement:
“The freedom festival is a family event where people come from all over Minnesota, the United States and the world to celebrate our Hmong heritage and freedom. It’s tragic that we had to witness the loss of innocent life due to senseless gun violence at what’s supposed to be a joyous event. I cannot imagine how heartbroken the family must be feeling.
“This shooting shows that no place is truly safe from gun violence, even events that have hundreds of on and off-duty law enforcement and security personnel on hand. We cannot continue to endure the cycle of violence we’re seeing in communities across the state. These shootings need to stop and we need to take action to stop them. We must come together and demand positive action to prevent senseless gun violence, not just for those in our community who have lost so much, but for all Minnesotans.”
Rep. Lee encourages constituents to contact him with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic. Rep. Lee can be reached by phone at 651-296-4262 or by email at rep.fue.lee@house.mn .
