Minneapolis Rep. Fue Lee awarded Midwest leaders fellowship
St. Paul, Minn — Representative Fue Lee today announced that he was among 37 Midwestern and Canadian lawmakers selected to participate in the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) training program that assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.
"From the costs of owning a home and picking up prescriptions, to the availability of quality education and child care for young learners, the 21st century economy has not benefited all Minnesotans equitably. I look forward to learning everything I can at BILLD to make sure we're addressing those challenges head-on," said Rep. Lee (DFL - Minneapolis).
Rep. Lee will meet with fellow lawmakers from Minnesota, 10 other Midwestern states, and four Canadian provinces on August 9-13 at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Courses and seminars are conducted by Humphrey faculty, Midwestern legislative leaders, and professional development experts. In addition to curriculum designed to develop leadership skills, the program analyzes a variety of public policy issues, including the economy, trade, and health care policy.
BILLD was founded in 1995 to help legislators meet the demands of increased policy responsibility being shifted to the states, and aims to fill a void in the shortage of training available for legislators. Participants are chosen through a competitive, nonpartisan process.
