Rep. Fue Lee Completes Regional Leadership Training
St. Paul, Minn. — State Representative Fue Lee was among 36 Midwestern and Canadian lawmakers selected to complete a leadership training program from August 9-13 that identifies and assists emerging state and provincial leaders in the Midwest.
Representative Lee met with fellow lawmakers at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs for the Council of State Governments' 25th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD).
"This fellowship was an invaluable experience. The relationships I built with Midwestern state legislators and the professional development we received will help me to be a better communicator and team member, and to advocate for critical investments in cybersecurity in elections to protect our democracy and shift health care reform discussions from coverage to affordability," said Rep. Lee (DFL - Minneapolis).
BILLD was founded in 1995 to help legislators meet the demands of increased policy responsibility being shifted to the states, and aims to fill a void in the shortage of training available for legislators. Participants from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan were chosen through a competitive, nonpartisan process.
Seminars are conducted by Humphrey faculty, midwestern legislative leaders and professional development experts. The program analyzes a variety of public policy issues, including transportation, U.S.-Canada trade and the regional economy.
