Day 1 of the Legislative Session

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

Rep. Lee

Dear Neighbor,

The Legislature returns to St. Paul today for the first day of the 2020 session. We plan to build on the momentum we built last year in addressing prescription drug prices, ensuring Minnesotans have access to paid family and medical leave, enacting common-sense solutions to prevent gun violence, and ensuring economic security for families and communities across the state.

As Vice-Chair of the Capital Investment Committee, I will work closely with Chair Mary Murphy to put together a robust public works and infrastructure package that benefits our entire state. On Thursday, I will present in the Government Operations Committee my bill to require all projects funded entirely or partly by the State to comply with certain human rights provisions.

During this first week, several other pieces of legislation I have authored are scheduled to receive hearings. My "fair campaign practice" provision, which will be heard in the Government Operations Committee on Tuesday, would ensure Census employees are granted access to buildings such as apartment buildings, dormitories, and nursing homes to ensure we get a full and accurate Census count.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Environment and Natural Resources Committee will hear my bills to require an analysis of all cumulative pollution that could be caused by a project before an air quality permit is issued, to prohibit insecticide use in wildlife management areas, and to hold public hearings on facilities with non-expiring air emission permits every five years.
