Legislative Update - May 2, 2025

Friday, May 2, 2025

Dear Neighbors,

May is here, and yesterday, May 1st, we recognized International Workers' Day.

Workers' Day

I was proud to spend this week alongside Minnesota’s workers, notably the men and women of the Minnesota State Building and Construction Trades Council. These are the workers literally building a better Minnesota.

I joined them this week as they came to the State Capitol to push for a robust Capital Investment Bill this year - something I strongly support!

There’s a significant backlog of state infrastructure projects - construction projects that benefit communities from border-to-border. These communities are begging us to pass a bill that’ll invest in them, their needs, and the needs of their region. We need to listen to them.

In the remaining weeks of session, the bulk of my time will be spent pushing for a Capital Investment bill that not only invests in our community, but the entire state.

The House’s Budget Bills

This week, we continued the process of passing the House’s Budget bills off the Floor. You can read more about our bipartisan budgets through these nonpartisan summaries:

I want to highlight an important component of our Veterans bill, which not only supports our veterans in a time when the Trump administration is slashing services, but also includes long-overdue recognition for Hmong and Lao veterans who served in Special Guerrilla Units during the Secret War, risking everything for American interests after being promised support that never fully materialized.

My father was one of those veterans.

The Veterans Budget immediately grants “Veteran of the Secret War in Laos” status to Minnesota residents who were naturalized for their service. Our bill represents a critical step toward fulfilling the long-overdue commitment to these courageous individuals who sacrificed so much for a country that wasn't yet their own, and have gone on to build vibrant communities in our state.

Veteran of the Secret War in Laos

In the coming weeks, I’ll be working to ensure this provision is included in the final Veterans bill.

Stay Connected

We only have a few weeks left of the legislative session, and now is a crucial time to reach out to share any questions, comments, or ideas you have on how to make our community and state better.

You can reach me at rep.fue.lee@house.mn.gov or 651-296-4262. You’ll hear back from me or our Legislative Assistant, Tenzin.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Fue Lee
