Dear Neighbors,
While it’s almost November, it’s certainly hard to believe snow is already flying in the state of Minnesota. With Halloween almost upon us, I hope any trick-or-treaters in your family have a safe and fun evening with costumes and candy. Here is an update from the Capitol.
Town Hall Meeting
As we look to gather input from community members prior to the 2018 legislative session, Sen. Steve Cwodzinski and I invite you to attend an upcoming Town Hall Meeting. We will gather on Saturday, November 11 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Minnetonka High School in the Forum Room. This will be a good opportunity to share ideas, ask questions and provide feedback. I hope you will be able to join us for some quality conversations with your neighbors about the important issues on the legislature’s agenda.
WHO: Rep. Laurie Pryor, Sen. Steve Cwodzinski, interested community members
WHAT: Town Hall Meeting
WHERE: Minnetonka High School (Forum Room), 18301 Highway 7, Minnetonka, MN 55345
WHEN: Saturday, November 11 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Veterans Day
November 11 also marks Veterans Day. This is an important occasion to recognize the sacrifices made by service members and their families. These brave men and women have stepped up to serve not for glory, but out of commitment to country. No matter the level of gratitude we give these brave Americans, it will never be enough. It’s important though to look at ways we can give back.
Housing, health care, and employment are just some of the challenges veterans often face when returning home. We also need to look to the needs of active duty members and their families in our community who forge ahead in their absence. I’m honored to serve on Eden Prairie’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon committee, and I encourage you to learn more about the group’s efforts supporting military members and their families on their Facebook page here.
Local Elections
With November nearing it also means Election Day is upon us. The Eden Prairie, Hopkins and Minnetonka school districts have elections this year, with Minnetonka also holding municipal elections. While Election Day falls on November 7 this year, you don’t need to wait until then to vote. In 2014, the Legislature increased the ability to vote early, in person, with no excuse needed. Visit the Secretary of State’s website to find out more information on voting early or what’s on your ballot.
As always, I hope you’ll contact me with your questions, comments, and ideas. It’s an honor to represent you in St. Paul.
Sincerely,
Laurie Pryor
State Representative
