Neighbors, Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released the budget forecast Tuesday, showing a projected $7.7 billion positive balance. While this is certainly good news, we know there’s work ahead. Many Minnesotans are still reeling from COVID-19 and facing an uncertain future. This surplus gives us the opportunity to make investments to address urgent needs and challenges facing Minnesotans, expand economic opportunity, and build a stronger future for everyone. A reminder that $3.1 billion of the positive balance is one-time money and there is uncertainty in the future. Even with this ambiguity we can still make a positive difference in people’s lives. Supporting workers, families, and small businesses and those most impacted by COVID-19 is the right thing to do. As the 2022 legislative session nears, I will continue to laser focus on the needs of our community and of students of all ages to thrive and succeed. Omicron Variant in Minnesota Public health officials are now monitoring the presence of the COVID-19 Omicron variant in Minnesota. We can all do our part to slow or stop the spread of the virus by getting a first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose, or, if eligible, get the booster shot. And don’t forget to get your annual flu shot. Also, a reminder that eligible Minnesotans 5 and older can also get their first and second COVID-19 vaccines. Go to this webpage to find a vaccine for children aged 5-11 and answer questions about the vaccine. You can also call the Minnesota Department of Health COVID-19 Public Hotline at 1-833-431-2053 Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sat., 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Name a Snowplow Last year, MNDOT asked for input to name a snowplow and after a successful contest, they’re doing it again! Minnesotans from across the state submitted entries last year and MNDOT is inviting you to have some fun and name the snowplows you may see on the road. Learn more here.
