Neighbors, On Monday, the full House of Representatives approved HF4, known as “Driver’s Licenses for All.” The bill would allow undocumented residents to obtain a driver’s license, after passing all the required standard licensing exams. This proposal has broad support from law enforcement, the business community, and unions. All of us deserve to be safe on the road and getting more people to pass a driving exam and become licensed ensures motorists have a common understanding of the rules of the road, can safely operate a vehicle, and can obtain insurance. Restore the Vote and Juneteenth Yesterday in the Minnesota House, we passed HF28. The measure restores the vote to individuals who have completed their term of incarceration after being convicted of a felony. We also passed HF13 to designate Juneteenth as a state holiday annually on June 19. Committees In the Education Finance committee, we discussed funding the special education cross subsidy (HF18) and funding the English language learners cross subsidy (HF22). In the Education Policy committee, we discussed a bill (HF613) to give high school students opportunity to earn credits which would count toward their graduation by working in health care. In addition to creating this valuable learning experience, this program will help address a huge workforce need by helping a new generation try out a career in this essential work.
