St. Paul, MN – Monday, Governor Walz signed into the law HF112, Rep. Laurie Pryor’s bill postponing the next review and revision of the physical education standards. In 2017, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) adopted the most recent Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) physical education standards, replacing the National Association of Sport and Physical Education standards.
Rep. Pryor (DFL-Minnetonka) released the following statement.
“Covid delayed implementation of the new standards and physical education teachers need time to catch up before beginning a new implementation. This legislation gives them additional time and will not cause any significant disruption to the new standard implementation which will take place beginning in the 2026-27 school year.”
