Hello from St. Paul,
Conference committee work is in full swing at the Capitol as members of the House and Senate try to find common ground on numerous state government spending bills and craft a finalized budget.
You’ll recall that conference committees are called for each spending area within state government, with five representatives and five senators trying to craft a compromise proposal that can be approved by both bodies. Once that happens, the legislation is sent to Governor Dayton for his approval.
As of today, the House is negotiating with the Senate. We have asked the governor to join us so we can finish our work on time, and look forward to his input. I will keep you posted on future developments.
This week, I was able to attend the Blaine Business Council meeting at Infinite campus. The main topic of conversation was modernizing education in order to close the achievement gap, and to find kids who need help early and intervene quickly.
Have a good weekend,
Nolan
