ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Nolan West, R-Blaine, is applauding a recent unanimous decision by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), requiring investor owned utilities, including Xcel Energy, to return approximately $200 million to ratepayers. The money comes from federal tax relief passed late last year, and it will be distributed immediately to consumers through a one-time bill credit.
Rep. West authored legislation during the 2018 legislative session to ensure Minnesotans benefited from the tax bill, directing the PUC to take this course of action and ensure those tax savings are returned to consumers.
“I am pleased to see that Minnesota families across our state will see more affordable energy costs in the future thanks to meaningful tax relief and a strong push by the Legislature to protect consumers,” said Rep. West. “I was proud to champion legislation that puts Minnesota ratepayers first, and I will continue to advocate for policies that put more money back in the pockets of hardworking Minnesotans.”
