Rep. West Legislative Update

Thursday, January 12, 2023

Hello from St. Paul,

Recently, the Minnesota House of Representatives suspended the rules in order to immediately address legislation that conforms Minnesota’s tax code with that of the federal government.

The tax conformity bill will help Minnesotans save money and avoid headaches during the upcoming tax season as it brings our state’s tax code in line with changes made by the federal government. The proposal includes several tax reduction provisions that provide positive changes for both individuals and businesses. Without state action, Minnesotans would not be able benefit from the federal tax law changes.

Before arriving on the House floor, Republican members of the Minnesota House Taxes Committee successfully blocked $100 million in proposed tax hikes, which was great news for taxpayers.

This is a good start to session. It has been five years since Minnesota’s tax code has been conformed, so I am pleased all sides came together and passed this bill without drama or controversy.

Talk to you soon,

Nolan
