Rep. West Legislative Update

Wednesday, February 1, 2023

Hello from the State Capitol,

Since my arrival in the Minnesota House, I have always made it clear that securing funding for Highway 65 in Blaine is my number one priority. Because of this, it should be no surprise that I am once again authoring legislation that will make improvements to this much-traveled roadway.

The bill I’ve signed onto (House File 744) would provide $130 million in bonding proceeds to Highway 65. This would improve the road and make it safer for motorists, while also eliminating stoplights and improving the intersections at 99th, 105th, 109th, and 117th Avenues.

I’ve been working on this issue for a number of years and we’ve made good progress. Senator Kreun is carrying the Highway 65 bill in the Minnesota Senate and has a number of Democrat co-authors, which signals that legislative body also understands the importance of a safer roadway. With bipartisan support in the House as well, I am very hopeful this is the year we finally put Highway 65 improvement funding in place.

I will keep you updated on the bill’s progress in the weeks ahead.

Also I recently had some special guests visit my office: my wife Megan and my dog Charlie stopped by for a visit and a meal during one of our longer session days recently!

If you’d like to share your legislative thoughts in person, or just stop in to say hello when you’re in St. Paul, you are always welcome. Please contact my office at 651-296-4226 and we will get you on the schedule!

Have a good weekend,

Nolan
